"The Thunder Community Relations Department works to create programs and partnerships that make a positive impact on the greater Oklahoma City Community. Our primary focus is on youth, with an emphasis on reading and literacy, health and fitness, and youth basketball."
Oklahoma City Thunder are not only one of the best NBA basketball team in the West, they are part of a major association called NBA Cares where their purpose is to give back to the community and help address important issues that we face here in Oklahoma.
Some of their programs include Thunder Youth Basketball, Read to Achieve, Thunder Community Foundation, Rolling Thunder Book Bus, Thunder Fit, and Community Hero just to name a few.

Rolling Thunder Book Bus:
This event takes place throughout the year and it is where a converted school bus travels to schools, community centers, museums, parks, and other site to provide and promote reading and literacy. Every students who visits the bus receives a free book to help foster their love of reading. The book bus has at least 3,000 books for pre-school through fifth grade readers.
Thunder players like Thabo Sefolosha and Nick Collison would come out to help the kids pick and choose a book as well as talk with the kids and encourage them to read.
Reading Time-Outs:
During this event special guests like thunder players, Thunder Girls and Thunder broadcasters would come out to the community and visit schools and other centers throughout the season, read to children, and talk about the importance of reading and literacy to success later in life.

Thunder fit
Thunder Fit is a program that consists of interactive fitness clinics that mainly target middle school students. In these clinics, the activities would focus on strength training, core/basketball drills, core training, and nutrition. The goal of this program is to encourage kids to get up and moving by showing them fun and simple ways to lead healthier, active lives.
Thunder's acts of kindness in okc
Thunder players would go out into the communities throughout Oklahoma and lend a helping hand where ever it is needed. Sometime its unexpected. Players had stopped by Oklahoma City Sport Clips, Love's, Mcdonalds, and Kia dealership to hand out free goods to Oklahomans and bond with the fans of the community. It is a chance for Thunder players to give back and thank the fans for being so supportive and to build a connection between the team and the community that supports them to the end.
Teacher of the game
Each season during every Thunder Home Game, 41 different school districts' Teacher of the Year from all over the state of Oklahoma will be recognized by American Fidelity Assurance Company as the Teacher of the Game. Each teacher receives a special in-game recognition, a gift bag with a gift card for classroom supplies, and a VIP seating at the game. Then during the last game of the season, Thunder fans will be able to see who American Fidelity Assurance Company will honor as the Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year. The purpose of this program is to ensure that outstanding teachers are being recognized and awarded for what they have done in the classroom.
Devon community hero
This is an award presented by Thunder that was created to honor outstanding Oklahomans who are making a significant difference in the community through their personal contribution of time, talent, and/or talents. The program recognizes a wide diversity of people ranging from well-know Oklahomans to the everyday heroes, highlighting the unique contributions they have made to help better the community.
As you can see the Thunder are well known for helping out around the community and giving recognition to those who deserves it. This is why they have such dedicated fans. They are looked up to as heroes in the eyes of many. They aren't seen as famous superstars, but as individuals who are capable of changing the lives of many for the better. Because of that I will continue to support the Thunder and their programs tell the end.
